Incurring an (abi) acquired brain injury has devastating and long lasting
effects on individuals. Although survivors may recover physically, there are
often cognitive or psychological changes that prevent survivors from returning
to their previous lifestyle. Written material has generally focused on assisting
professionals and families to understand the cognitive and behavioral
consequences of closed or open brain injury. There is a great deal of
information written about the bis (brain injured survivor) but
there is a sore lack of material written FOR the bis (brain
injured survivor). In order to meet our needs as survivors of abi (acquired
brain injury) we have written this Directory addressed specifically TO the
survivor.
That is why this FOTHI Directory is written in a straight forward manner
understandable to most survivors.
This manual is written for you, the bis (brain injured survivor). It is not
for your family, nor your therapists, or your employer. Nor is it for your
attorney or your rehabilitation Nurse.
They are welcome to read the FOTHI DIRECTORY, as it is important that all of
these people understand what has happened to you. BUT this directory is written
by bis (brain injury survivors) only with the brain injured survivor in mind.
